ARS Concludes World Convention in Montreal

WATERTOWN–From October 10 to 14–the Armenian Relief Society (ARS)–held its 68th international convention at the Armenian Community Center in Montreal.

The convention opened on October 8 with a dinner dance–which gathered about 500 people at the Armenian Center. The evening featured special guest Lebanese First Lady Andree Emile Lahoud–who is an honorary member of the ARS.

ARS members from 20 countries–including Canada–the United States–Armenia–South America–France–Greece–Bulgaria–Syria–Lebanon–Australia–Artsakh–Javakhk–England–Sweden–Germany–Egypt–Cyprus–and Jerusalem listened to the report of the outgoing ARS Central Executive Board and evaluated its operations. This was followed by the discussion of items on the Convention’s and planning of activities for the upcoming triennial.

On the final day of the meeting–delegates elected a new Central Executive Board and the following ARS members were elected to serve: Hasmik Derderian (Western United States); Nova Hindoyan (Western United States); Georgi-Ann Oshagan (Eastern United States); Mayda Melkonian (Eastern United States); Shake Basmadjian (Eastern United States); Maro Frounjian (Canada); Lisa Avakian (Greece); Karine Hovhannisian (Armenia); and Tamar Der Bedrossian (Lebanon).
