Russia Beats Armenia in Chess Championships

BEER SHEVA–Israel–The sixth round of the World Chess Championship tournament continued Monday with China beating Olympiad champion Ukraine 2.5-1.5 to maintain its slim lead with 16 points–half a point ahead of Russia which beat Armenia by the same score to trail with 15.5 points.

In other matches–Georgia crushed Cuba 3:1 while the USA blanked the Chinese Women 4:0. Armenia did not play in the fifth round of the competition–as each team sits out one round. The championships will continue through this week.

Below are the current standings:

First: China 16
Second: Russia 15.5
Third: USA 11.5
Fourth: Armenia 11
Fifth: Ukraine 10.5
