PYATIGORSK (Armenpress)–A group of unknown assailants attempted to set fire to the Armenian Cultural Center in the southern Russian city of Pyatigorsk on the night of November 13. The Center houses the offices of some Armenian organizations–reported the region’s Armenian paper Yerkramas.
The center’s surveillance camera showed several people writing "Alla Wakbar" on the wall of the building–located near the Armenian Church–then throwing what appeared to be a Molotov cocktail at a window. Fortunately the bottle missed and hit the frame of the window.
Residents of nearby houses called firefighters who were able to put out the fire.
An urgent meeting of the local ethnic council condemned the attack–and called on residents not to yield to provocation. Representatives of various nationalities who make-up the Council also urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to track down and punish the culprits.
