YEREVAN (Yerkir)–A lengthy interview with Turkish Michigan University professor Fatma Muge Gocek was published in the December 2005 special issue of the Montreal-based Horizon Weekly.
In the interview–Gocek spoke about Turkey’s denial of the Armenian genocide–the Istanbul Conference–as well as the Turkish community’s stance toward the Armenian genocide. Gocek’s commen’s have caused outrage among many Turks–some of whom have called Gocek an Armenian Revolutionary Federation agent and an enemy of the Turkish nation.
In her response to those who have sent her defamatory letters–Gocek notes that there are Turkish "scholars and individuals who enjoy the support of Turkish special services," and their goal is to libel and discredit scholars who want to their nation to face the fact of the Armenian genocide.
