Great Britain Government Responds to Baroness Cox Motion

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The government of the United Kingdom gave a written response on January 12 to a motion put forth by Baroness Cox–the vice-speaker of the House of Lords–asking the government whether they will appeal to UNESCO concerning the destruction and desecration by Azerbaijan of ancient Armenian churches and artifacts.

According to the Armenian embassy–the letter states that "the government is aware and concerned about the information the Armenian side presents in connection with destruction and desecration in some of the cemeteries in Azerbaijan. We condemn any kind of desecration of religious monumen’s or grave stones. Such acts–wherever they take place–only dishonor the criminals. We know that Armenia has already raised this issue in UNESCO. We are not planning to raise this issue by ourselves."
