YEREVAN (RFE/RL/Yerkir)–Russia’s involvement in the peace process was praised Wednesday by a senior Karabagh official. "We highly appreciate Russia’s mediation efforts as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group to reach a solution to the Karabagh-Azerbaijani conflict," Georgi Petrosian–Foreign Minister Mountainous Karabagh Republic (MKR)–told the Russian Regnum news agency.
While on his official visit to Azerbaijan–Putin said that Russia is "extremely interested in resolving all the conflicts in the post-Soviet space."
This follows an announcement by the Russian Foreign Ministry Sunday–saying that Russia is ready to act as a guarantor of the Karabagh Peace settlement–if Armenia and Azerbaijan come to a compromise.
"Russia would be ready to support the settlement option suiting the conflicting parties–and will act as a guarantor of the conflict settlement–if the parties reach a compromise," a spokesman for the Ministry said. He added that Russia will continue its efforts to actively contribute to the solution of the Karabagh conflict.
