Kocharian to Visit Russian Next Week

YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Armenian President Robert Kocharian will pay a working visit to Russia on October 30 and 31, announced the Press Office of the Russian Embassy in Armenia. Kocharian’s visit is aimed at broadening Russian-Armenian relations. Last year marked the "Year of Russia Armenia," while this year "Year of Armenia" will be celebrated in Russia. The Russian embassy announced that large-scale events to mark this occasion have been planned, which serve to highlight the strong ties between the two countries. The resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be high on the agenda of the talks between Kocharian and Russian president Vladimir Putin. "We welcome the ongoing Azeri-Armenian dialogue at various levels, but more importantly between the leaders of the two countries. Russia believes that the parties to the conflict themselves should find a mutually acceptable resolution and pledges its active assistance, both bilaterally and in the capacity of a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group," announced the Russian Embassy in Yerevan. Also on the agenda of talks between the two leaders will be the implementation of agreemen’s within the energy, transport and other sectors of cooperation. The meetings will also focus on CIS issues, especially coordinating of efforts in the Caucasus and establish confidence-building measures to strengthen cooperation in the region.
