Armenia’s Defense Ministry Blasts Azeri Allegations

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s defense ministry Wednesday denied Azeri media reports, which quoted Azeri Defense Minister Safar Abiyev as saying that the first item on the agenda of last month’s meeting with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sakisian was the "withdrawal of Armenian forces from occupied Azeri territories." The said meeting took place on October 20 at the westernmost section of the heavily militarized zone near the Armenian town of Ijevan at the initiative of an OSCE official, Andrzey Kasprzyk, who was leading his organization’s cease-fire monitoring efforts. In a brief press release following the meeting the Armenian defense ministry announced that the ministers had discussed ceasefire violations along the Armenian-Azeri border and near the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
