ARF participates in Russia-European Union conference

YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, over the weekend, took part in a Russia-European Union conference organized by the European Forum for Democracy and Solidarity in Moscow, reported the ARF press service. Director of the ARF’s political advocacy office in Moscow Yuri Navoyan was joined by the ARF Bureau’s political affairs director Giro Manoyan at the conference, which was hosted by the Russian Social-Democratic Party. Parliament members from Russia, Ukraine and Finland, as well as Members of the European Parliament from Austria and the Netherlands and representatives from Socialist parties of Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Greece attended the conference. The conference discussed the developmen’s of social-democracy in Russia, its role in Russian politics, the relations between Russia and European Union as well as its neighbors. On Monday, Navoyan met with Annes Cookerman, the political advisor of the French Embassy in Moscow, the ARF press service reported. Navoyan expressed the gratitude of Moscow’s Armenian community for the French parliament’s adoption of a bill criminalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide. Navoyan said the passing of the bill is an expression of the respect of the Armenian people’s rights. Cookerman’spoke of the disputes going on in the French society on Turkey’s bid to join the European Union. She pointed out that France wanted to help establish trust and cooperation between nations. Navoyan emphasized the need for Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide in order to be accepted in the ran’s of the civilized countries.
