Karabakh Foreign Minister, Armenia Deputy Parliament Speaker Visit Greece

ATHENS (Azat Or)–Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Georgy Petrossian and Deputy Parliament Speaker of Armenia Vahan Hovanessian visited Greece over the weekend, where they met with the Greek community and political officials. Accompanied by members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Central Committee of Greece and Armenian National Committee of Greece members, the two leaders met with Fotis Kuvelis, chairman of the parliamentary Armenia-Greece friendship bloc. Also participating in the meeting were chairman of the Greece-Azerbaijan parliamentary group, Maksimos Kharakopulous. The two leaders briefed the parliamentary leaders about the current situation of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, following which a discussion was held on matters of economic cooperation, the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and socio-political developmen’s in the two Armenian republics. "Our caucus will do its utmost to marshal the friendly relations with Armenia, and through concise legislation and active measures assist Armenia and Karabakh," announced Kuvelis, chairman of the Armenia-Greece Friendship Bloc. In his remarks, Kharakopulous highly praised the relations between Armenia and Greece and said the meeting was another chapter in centuries-old alliance and friendship between the two nations. The two leaders met with the Greek-Armenian community in Thesaloniki, where following a briefing by each on the current situation in both republics, a discussion took place with community members. During a gala banquet at Athens’ Royal Olympic Hotel, more than 42,000 euros was raised toward Armenian National Committee of Greece’s activities. The Greek-Armenian community also honored Apostolos Kaklaman’s and Antonis Samaras for their critical leadership in the passage of the Armenian Genocide resolution in Greece.
