Hovanessian Meets With Greek Counterpart

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s deputy parliament chairman and Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau member Vahan Hovanessian met Tuesday with his Greek counterpart Georgios Surlas in Athens. Armenia’s foreign affairs ministry said Hovanessian briefed the Greek leader on the current situation in Armenia thanked the parliament of Greece for recognizing the Armenian Genocide in 1996. Surlas discussed the Ottoman Turkish policy of exterminating its Armenian and Greek population, emphasizing the need for consistent actions to press for international recognition of these crimes, reported the foreign ministry. The two leaders also discussed cooperation between the two countries’ parliamen’s and agreed to set a date of a visit to Armenia by members of the Greece-Armenian parliamentary friendship group. Hovanessian and Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Foreign Minister Georgy Petrossian are in Greece to attend a series of events marking the tenth anniversary of Greece’s official recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
