Westside Guild to Host Christmas Luncheon

The Westside guild of the Ararat Home will hold its annual Christmas luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Saturday Dec. 9, 2006 . The festivities will start at 11am with the silent auction which this year will feature such items as Waterford Crystal, precious jewels, gift baskets, luggage and a Cole Hahn handbag. Cindy Norian and Diana Hekimian are gathering an abundance home baked Armenian goodies for the cook’s corner which in the past several years has been the first area to sell out. Luncheon Co-chairs Barbara Poladian and Andrea Fehring are promising a red, white and silver winter wonderland theme which will feature snowmen and snowflakes throughout the Crystal Ballroom. The Beverly Hills Hotel and The Las Vegas MGM Grand, have each generously donated a 3 days and 2 nights stay for the winning Raffle tickets. Performing on this holiday occasion will be pianist Sarkis Kazaryan who has been playing the piano since the age of twelve came to the US from Armenia in 1980. The maestro who earned both Bachleors and Masters of Music degrees from USC’s Thornton School, graduated from the prestigious class of Daniel Pollack. Garnering a string of awards Sarkis has also won numerous competitions and received scholarships for his USC studies. He now teaches at his own studio in Burbank. This year the group will honor Lily Balian, as the Angel of the year. This award goes to a person who has tirelessly given of her time and energy for the Ararat Home. Lily has been a loyal member since 1991 when the Westside Guild was founded. Steadfast in her support for the last fifteen years, Lily served as President in 1995 and has chaired every board committee, including the major Christmas fundraising event. Upon hearing the news of the tribute, Balian said, "I am humbled and touched by this honor. I’m proud to join the dedicated women who have preceded me as Angels. To be in their company is truly an honor." AGBU school students from the San Fernando Valley will help luncheon committee members Linda Avazian, Tamara Buuck, Joan Agajanian Quinn, Arpy Kludjian, Selma Sells, Denise Roopenian and Violet Hatounian, The Ararat Homes for the Aged are located in Mission Hills and Eagle Rock.
