YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Celebrations marking the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Armenia’s Armed Forces will begin on January 26, two days ahead of the official date, with a gala concert in Yerevan. Manuk Manukian, head of the defense ministry’s department for cultural and public relations, said the main event would be held on January 28 with another concert and an awards ceremony. He said festivities would continue throughout the year across the country and in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Army’s Day is a public holiday in the country. In his messages on this occasion president Robert Kocharian described armed forces as "a brilliant manifestation of national self-consciousness and dignity, and the reliable defender of our country’s borders, the guarantors of a peace and existence of our people, as well as an important condition for our progress." The decree to establish Armenian Army was signed on January 28, 1992 by then President Levon Ter-Petrosian.
