LOS ANGELES–Los Angeles and Yerevan became sister cities on Friday when respective mayors Antonio Villaraigosa and Yervand Zakharyan, along with Los Angeles Council President Eric Garcetti formalized the relationship during a signing ceremony. The 10:30 a.m. event was held after a private meeting between the three officials. Close to 400 community members and leaders packed LA City Council chambers to witness the historic event. The relationship between the two sister cities will be facilitated by the Los Angeles–Yerevan Sister City Association (LAYSCA) a volunteer working group consisting of Armenian American entrepreneurs, professionals and community leaders. LAYSCA was formed on the initiative of Coucilman Garcetti, and will be headed by Souzi Zerounian-Khanzadian.
