Ontario Parliament’s Brad Duguid Introduces Armenian Genocide Bill

ONTARIOBrad Duguid, a member of Ontarios Legislative Assembly of Ontario introduced The Armenian Genocide Bill on Monday, March 26, requesting the Government of Ontario designate April 24 of each year as Armenian Genocide Memorial Day. The Armenian National Committee of Toronto ANCT commended Duguids diligent efforts to promote understanding and raise awareness amongst Ontarians of past and present injustices. ANCT stressed that an Armenian Genocide Memorial Day in Ontario would not only honor the victims and survivors of the Armenian Genocide but also the contributions of the Georgetown boys to Canadas multicultural setting. In the 1920s, 109 orphaned boys, victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, were selected from refugee camps in the Middle East and taken to Canada. They reunited 60 years later in Georgetown, Ontario. A short film chronicling their individual journeys and their reunion was recently released. Ontario Parliament’s Brad Duguid Introduces Armenian Genocide Bill
