$400,000 Raised for Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School

LOS ANGELESDuring a fundraising banquet on March 31 at the home of Mary and Joseph Afifi, $400,000 was raised for the Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian school. Organized by the schools finance committee, this event was unique opportunity to reinforce the communitys commitment to Armenian schools and to bolster the educational facet of our community. The first donation of $125,000 by Mr. & Mrs. Hagop Daglian was announced by school principal Dr. Viken Yacoubian, who said that the schools new library will be named after the generous couple. Yacoubian also added that the Daghlians son was a graduate of Pilibos and that the couple believed that their grandchildren and their children would also attend the school. The second donation of $200,000 by the Tashjian brothers and their sister Mary Babikian was also accepted by a warm welcome from Yacoubian, who announced that the donation was made in memory of their father, Nerses Tashjian, who they said spared nothing in his life for the success of his children. Yacoubian announced that the school gym would be named after Nerses Tashjian for his commitment to education and the Armenian Cause. A third donation of $20,000 by Mr. & Mrs Navasart and Maral Kazazian and the Margosian family was made in memory of their father, Kevork Mardirosian. Yacoubian announced that the elementary school computer lab would be named after Kevork Mardirosian. In his remarks, Yacoubian made a special mention of the Armenian Relief Society Mayr chapter and the St. Garabed Church for their continued financial contributions to the school. He thanked all the generous benefactors and pledged that their contributions would only enhance and improve the schools commitment to the future generations of Armenia’s.
