Thousands Make Pilgrimage to Montebello Martyrs Monument

MONTEBELLOThousands of Southern California Armenian community members made a pilgrimage to the Montebello Martyrs Monument and laid flowers in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Organized by a joint committee of community organizations, led by the three political parties, this effort was structured to create a new tradition in this community, mirroring the annual pilgrimage to Dzidzernagapert. Political, religious and organizational leaders were first on hand at the monument, where a Memorial Mass was said by the leaders of all Armenian denominations. What followed were throngs of young and old people coming to the foot of the monument and paying their respects.
