More Than $800,000 Raised at Annual ACF Banquet

 

LOS ANGELESMore than $800,000 was raised on May 4 for the Armenian Cultural Foundation during a gala banquet, which took place at the Biltmore Hotel downtown and was attended by more than 400 community members and benefactors.

The evening served as an opportunity to thank a group of generous benefactors and donors, whose support throughout the years has allowed the Foundation to carry out its activities. Present at the event were Western Prelate Moushegh Mardirossian, Armenian Evangelical leader Rev. Hovsep Matossian, Armenia’s Consul General to Los Angeles Armen Liloyan and consular staff, Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau member Dr. Vicken Hovsepian, benefactors and donors, as well as regional and central representatives of the Armenian Relief Society, the Homenetmen, the Hamazkayine, Executive Council, local ARF chapter members.

Mistress of Ceremonies Talar Shahinian-Mahrokian welcomed the guests and in her remarks outlined the activities of the ACF. A video presentation chronicling the activities of the ARF, especially its election campaign in Armenia for the upcoming parliamentary vote was shown. ARF Western US Central Committee representative Avedik Izmirlian thanked all donors and praised this annual event for allowing the opportunity for the organization to discuss its activities and report on projects with supporters and benefactors whose continued support allows the realization of those goals.

In discussing the numerous challenges facing Armenia’s in Armenia and the Diaspora, Izmirlian said that the ARF was at the forefront of fighting for the just aspirations of the Armenian people. He praised the ARFs army of supporters, whose belief and commitment to the organization, as well as their unwavering moral and financial contributions have provided the organization the impetus and the assistance it requires to lead the people. You are the key component of this army, for which today we are proud and grateful, said Izmirlian. He especially thanked Mr. and Mrs. Varant and Hoori Melkonian for their continued support and generosity, especially for underwriting all costs of the banquet.

Izmirlian went on to discuss the challenges facing the Armenian people and explained that in the Western United States, the organization was bolstered by the continued participation of the youth who carried the torch of the organizations legacy. He also praised the representatives of the Armenian press who were present and the role they play in our community’s reality.

Izmirlian explained that through the generosity of the donors and benefactors, the organizations activities have already begun to take new form, specifically addressing changes made in Asbarez, Horizon, the youth office and the establishment of a public relations office. In conclusion, he, once again, thanked the donors who continue to support Armenia and Armenian interests through the ARF.

In his remarks, ARF Bureau member Dr. Vicken Hovsepian expressed his gratitude to all who had accepted the invitation and had brought their participation to this cause. He especially thanked Mr. & Mrs. Varant and Hoori Melkonian and Mr. & Mrs. Charles and Julie Ghalian for their continued support of the organization. He also extended the organizations gratitude to Manas Boujikian, Varoujan Koundakjian and Garbis Titizian, who, through their business ventures in Armenia, have always assisted the ARF in its activities.

Dr. Hovsepian then made special remarks by thanking Ashkhen Pilavjian, who is not only a generous benefactor to the ACF, but also extends her financial support to the Western Prelacy, the ARS and the Homenetmen. He invited her to the podium and as a token of appreciation presented her with a gold coin set of the ARFs founders Rostom, Kristapor and Zavarian.

The Bureau member also outlined the organizations will and commitment to lead the Armenian people through the challenges it was facing and highlighted the resolve with which it has entered Armenia’s political life. He said that the ARFs involvement in regional and federal government in Armenia is proof that the people of Armenia have faith in the organizations mission and program. In conclusion, he once again thanked the benefactors and took the opportunity to renew the ARFs mission and commitment. The program concluded by an invocation by Prelate Moushegh Mardirossian.
