GLENDALELong-time Homenetmen member and community activist Varouj Bedikian was named the Honorary Chairman of the 32nd annual Homenetmen Navasartian Games and has donated $50,000 to the organization, announced the Regional Executive. Bedikian was born in Aleppo, Syria to Pastor Vahan and Zvart Bedikian. Their family moved to the United States in 1967 and settled in San Francisco, where Varouj attended local public schools. During my high school years, various ethnic groupsespecially African-Americanswere seeking to find their roots. Encouraged by that environment, I began to read books and newspapers in Armenian, said Bedikian. Unfortunately, at the time, there were no Armenian schools or organizations such as the Homenetmen in the San Francisco area. Thus, I taught myself Armenian, added Bedikian. He attended San Jose State University and received a degree in marketing. After a brief tenure at ACS, which moved him to Los Angeles in 1985, he started his own business called GBH Communications, which throughout the years has become a leader in business conference solutions boasting Microsoft, Aetna, Harvard and Stanford universities as some of roster of many clients. Bedikian has two daughters, Alik and Talin, both of whom are members of the Homenetmen Shant chapter. His interest in the Homenetmen’surged when his daughters were growing up and wanted to play basketball. Bedikian said most of his circle of friends are, in some way, involved with the Homenetmen and praised the organization for nurturing an Armenian environment and serving as a place where Armenia’s can preserve their heritage and identity. It was the least I could do to help this mammoth organization, which has done so much for our people, said Bedikian of being named the Honorary Chairman of the Navasartian Games.
