Over $150,000 Raised for Krouzian-Zekarian School in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO–More than $150,000 was raised for the Krouzian-Zekarian Vasbouragan Armenian School in the Bay Area during the school’s 26th anniversary banquet held on June 9 at the Saroyan Hall of the Khachadourian Center, organized by the school’s finance committee.
Joining the more than 250 community members at the banquet were Rev. Avedis Torosian of the San Francisco Parish, Board of Regents Chairman Avo Keshishian, as well as Board of Regents member Mark Guedikian. chairman of the Hamazkayin Regional Executive and the Principal of the Rose and Alex Pilibos School was the keynote speaker for the evening.
Mistress of Ceremonies Naira Der-Gureghian welcomed the guests and invited the school’s finance committee chairperson Rostom Aintablian to present an overview of the school’s activities and financial goals for the future.
Board of Regenets chairman Keshishian, in his remarks, outlined the challenges facing private and public education in California, while at the same time praising the KZV School for its continued stride toward academic excellence and for nurturing generations of Armenia’s in the Bay Area.
A touching presentation was made by KZV alumnae and UC-Berkley student Noushig Karapanian, who recalled her days as a student at the school. Karpanian said that it was the education afforded to her at the school that made her so close to the community and instilled in her the meaning of the “toward the homeland” slogan.
In his keynote address, Yacoubian outlined the current state of the Armenian-American student and the challenges facing the new generation of Armenia’s.
He also outlined the critical role the KZV school has played in strengthening the Bay Area Armenian community and the crucial mission it still has in the lives of new generations growing up in that community.
The school newly-appointed principal Dr. Yeprem Mehranian was presented a welcoming and appreciation gift by finance committee member Khajag Sarkissian. Keshishian, on behalf of the Board of Regents presented an appreciation plaque to long-time teacher and community leader Olia Yenikomshian for her dedication and service to the school.
