GLENDALE–The Annual Celebrity Gala of the Armenian Dramatic Arts Alliance will be held on Sunday, August 19, 6:30pm at the Stars Palace Theatre in Glendale, 417 Brand Boulevard.
The event will be emceed by former Miss Hollywood Jill Simonian, correspondent for the Reelz Channel’s "Dailies" newscast, the only television source devoted to movie fans 24/7 (Dish and DirectTV). Red carpet celebrities will also include award-winning actors Karen Kondazian, Michael Goorjian, Gregory Zarian, Magda Harout, Buck Kartalian, Shake
Toukhmanian, Anoush N’vart, Shant Bejanian, and FOX News reporter Anita Vogel.
The ADAA Celebrity Gala will also feature a special appearance by Hollyscoop hosts Diana Magpapian, Nora Gasparian, and Ani Esmailian (www.hollyscoop.com); musical entertainment by acclaimed singer/songwriter Gor Mkhitarian; and a silent auction of high-end Hollywood memorabilia provided by The Legends Group.
The evening’s highlights will be the presenting of the first-ever $10,000 Paul Screenwriting Contest Award, judged by a stellar Honorary Jury: Oscar-winning screenwriter Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List, Gangs of New York); Anahid Nazarian, producer for Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope Films; Michael Goorjian, Emmy Award-winning actor, director and writer; and Simon Levy, award-winning playwright and Artistic Director of the Fountain Theatre in Hollywood. Introduced by Anita Vogel, actress Karen Kondazian will present the $10,000 award to the winning writer, in honor of her family, in whose name the award was established. In addition, ADAA’s inaugural Armenian Star Award will be presented by the Mayor of Glendale, Ara Najarian.
The event will culminate with a special celebrity reading of an excerpt of the play, “I Ask You, Ladies and Gentlemen,” a new stage adaptation of Leon Z. Surmelian’s novel, directed by Simon Levy, the award-winning playwright and Artistic Director of the Fountain Theatre who has helped several Armenian-themed readings and productions come to life at his well-known Hollywood theater.
The Fountain and ADAA are also hosting their Second Annual Reading Series, August 13, 14, and 15, prior to the Aug. 19 Celebrity Gala. The series will highlight the plays of Armenian playwright Berge Zeytuntsyan. The Celebrity Gala will also feature an encore celebrity performance by Gregory Zarian of a monologue from one of the Zeytuntsyan plays, “Born and Died,” following the original performance featured in the Fountain Reading Series.
