Oskanian Welcomes Dual Citizenship in Armenia

YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian welcomed dual citizenship in Armenia Thursday calling it a means to strengthen Armenia’s position.
In an interview with the Tehran-based Huys newspaper, the Foreign Minister stressed that dual citizenship will allow the dispersed Armenian population around the world to strengthen its ties with the homeland.
Oskanian said dual citizenship would allow Armenia to strengthen its resources and maintain its position in the ever-evolving world.
“One part of our new resources will come from Armenia and the other part from the Diaspora,” added Oskanian.
In the same interview, Oskanian discussed the Karabakh conflict resolution process, saying that while no major inroads were made during the Armenian and Azeri presidential summit in St. Petersburg earlier this summer, Armenia would continue to participate in “this important and sensitive process.”
“The Armenian side will not spare efforts to settle the conflict. We will assist in establishing enduring peace in the region,” added Oskanian.
Oskanian also said establishing and maintaining friendly relations with all neighbors and ensuring Armenia’s active role in regional and global developmen’s were a fundamental part of Armenia’s foreign policy.
The minister listed a number of foreign policy priorities, including boosting of relations with Russia, the US and Iran, all of which are actively involved in the South Caucasus developmen’s.
Among other priorities, Oskanian mentioned further strengthening of diverse ties with Armenia’s immediate neighbors Iran and Georgia, normalization of ties with Turkey, resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and restoration of normal relations with Azerbaijan.
