YEREVAN–The political circles in France are still positively disposed to the bill criminalizing the negation of the Armenian Genocide, said Republic of Armenia Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to France Edward Nalbandyan.
The terms of discussion of the bill in the Senate are not known so far, said Nalbandian. However, the question may again be included in the agenda, since the attitude, despite the presidential election and recent changes in the Parliament, is on the whole, positive, he added.
The lower chamber of the French Parliament adopted the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide on October 12, 2006. It envisages a punishment ranging from one year of imprisonment to a fine of 45 thousand Euros. The bill has now been submitted for the Senate confirmation.
