Oskanian Says Yerevan Wants to Help Javakhk Armenians

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In an interview with the Hayrenik newspaper published in Javakhk, Georgia, Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian said the government in Yerevan was monitoring the developmen’s in the region carefully and was working with Georgian authorities to confront the challenges facing the Armenian population there.
He highlighted the significance of the region and ensured that all relevant entities realized the important role Javakhk plays.
“We place great importance in a road development project designed for this region funded by the US government through the Millennium Challenges Account program. I have witnessed the start of this major project,” said Oskanian.
The foreign minister also said 46 secondary schools had been renovated over the past six years under provisions of the Armenian state budget.
“In 2008 a program for restoring cultural monumen’s in Javakhk is planned,” added Oskanian.
Oskanian stated that Armenia is interested in developing the national education in Armenian communities abroad and preserving Armenian culture, adding, “At the same time, we have always supported the importance of the integration of Armenian communities into the state of residence.”
He noted that the knowledge of language and acculturation are the most important elemen’s in promoting participation in the political and economic processes.
