Armavia to Resume Flights Across Turkey

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s largest civilian airline carrier, Armavia, will resume direct flights Thursday to Beirut, Lebanon and Aleppo, Syria across Turkish airspace.
Turkey’s aviation authorities banned Armenian civilian aircraft from flying to Syria and Lebanon over its territory on November 13 citing unspecified technical reasons.
Nana Avetisian, a spokeswoman for Armavia, said Monday Turkish aviation authorities notified the company that they were ready to navigate Armavia’s flights across Turkey every Tuesday, but they said also that Armavia should warn about the flights beforehand.
Turkey has kept its airspace open to passenger jets flying to and from Armenia for the past several years while refusing to reopen the Turkish-Armenian land border and establish diplomatic relations with Yerevan. There is a direct flight between Yerevan and Istanbul.
