Bone Marrow Stem Cell Lab to Open in Armenia

YEREVAN (Armradio)-A laboratory for the collection of bone marrow stem cells will be opened in the Yerevan Blood Center this year.
All the necessary equipment for the center has already been purchased and is ready for installation according to Armine Hyusyan, who is responsible for the laboratory of the Armenian Registry of Marrow Donors benevolent fund.
The area allocated for the center is currently being remodeled and will be complete by spring.
Since 2002, January 8 has been celebrated in Armenia as donor’s day. The registry has been registering donors in Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh, USA, Iran, Canada, and Lebanon, since 2001, Hyusyan said. According to her, the registry now has 14 thousand donors, about 2 000 of which registered in 2007.
