USC Friends of Armenian Music Presents Visions for the Future of Armenian Music

LOS ANGELES–An array of musicians and panelists will highlight the Symposium presented by the USC Friends of Armenian Music (USC-FAM) on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the University of Southern California, Town and Gown. Among the performing musicians, guests will hear Suren Mkrchyan, Tenor, Shoushik Barsoumian, Soprano, Armen Guzelimian, piano, a string quartet and more.
A panel of outstanding musical authorities will be discussing the evolution of Armenian classical music into the 21st Century. The Panel will be moderated by Dr. Robert Cutietta, Dean of the Thornton School of Music of the University of Southern California. The distinguished panelists include the world renowned composer, Tigran Mansurian; Concert Violinist, Artistic Director of the Dilijan Chamber Concert Series and UCLA faculty, Movses Pogossian; Concert Pianist, Vocal Coach, Armen Guzelimian; and the celebrated music critic of the Los Angeles Times, Mark Swed.
This special event will begin with a brunch from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., followed by the Symposium from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Artemis Bedros, President of the USC-FAM, states "This unique event will be the most satisfying experience for our members and friends. It will put us in touch with current trends in Armenian music; listening to performances as well as getting to hear in person the outstanding panelists.
