BAKU (Armenpress)–Members of Azerbaijan’s parliament were urged Tuesday to send letters of protest to the UN member countries that voted against an Azerbaijani drafted resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh, which passed in the General Assembly on March 14.
"The Azerbaijani parliament should express its attitude on this issue. The friendship groups of the parliament should send protest letters to the countries which voted against or abstained from voting," Mubariz Gurbanli, the deputy Secretary of Azerbaijan’s governing New Azerbaijan Party was quoted by trend news agency as saying.
The OSCE Minsk Group’s co-chairs–France, the US, and Russia–voted against the resolution, explaining the Azeri initiative as a move that would only create obstacles for continuation of peaceful negotiations for the settlement of Karabakh Conflict.
Azeri Parliamentarian Gudrat Hasanguliyev said special discussions should be held in the parliament with the participation of the president and government. The latest discussion at the UN demonstrates that not only Russia, but the West as well, is interested in keeping the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict frozen, he said.
"We should tell the population that the peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh is impossible," he said.
