Karabakh Does Impact Turkey Armenia Ties, Says Babacan

ANKARA (Combined Sources)–Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan Wednesday told the visiting French presidential advisor Pierre Lellouche that the Karabakh conflict issue has a direct impact on normalizing Turkish-Armenian relations, reported the Turkish press.
Lellouche and Babacan discussed Turkey’s possible membership in the European Union, as well as issues related to normalizing ties between Turkey and Armenia.
Lellouche reiterated French President Nikolas Sarkozy’s opposition to Turkish membership in the EU, but added that France would not thwart those efforts.
In discussing Turkey-Armenia relations, Babacan told the French advisor that his government was still waiting on an official response from Armenia on a proposed conference of historians to discuss the Armenian Genocide.
On numerous occasions, the current and former Armenian regimes have rejected the such proposals and advocated for an unconditional establishment of ties between Turkey and Armenia.
