National Archives Building Digital Database

YEREVAN (Armenpress)-The Armenian National Archives is building a digital database, which will drastically facilitate research with archival materials, announced National Archives Head Amatuni Virabian.
According to Virabian, 11,907 electronic archives were created in the first quarter of 2008. The National Archives has also restored some 67,000 pages of archival documen’s in the first quarter of this year. It also checked 151,400 micro images and coded 130,000 archival cases.
Virabian told Armenpress that these materials have to be processed with special chemicals otherwise they will be destroyed. He said the National Archives has a reserve of microfilm copies of many documen’s, which are available to researchers and in this year alone, 22,780 documen’s and materials were provided to researchers and visitors for various research purposes.
The Archives, Virabian explained is also currently obtaining valuable materials and documen’s about prominent Armenia’s throughout history.
