Babacan Reiterates Preconditions, Calls Karabakh Republic an Issue

ANKARA (Armenpress)–Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan was in Brussels Thursday where he told the International Affairs Commission of the European Union that the existence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic prevents the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.
According to the Turkish Hurriyet Babacan also commented on Turkish requests for Armenia to open its “archives.” Ignoring the fact that an Armenian state did not exist in 1915, Babacan complained that Ankara had not received a response from Armenia about the opening of its state archives for the joint studying of what they call, the issues 1915-1918.
Babacan also noted that the upcoming meeting between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan is a hopeful sign that the Karabakh Conflict will be settled.
