Another Azeri Official Says No to Compromise

BAKU (ArmRadio)–Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense told his Estonian counterpart during an official meetings Friday that Baku would not make any compromises and was ready to "release its lands" from Armenia
"If Armenia continues denying a peaceful settlement of the problem, Azerbaijan will not agree with it and will release its lands. Armenia’should understand that," Defense Minister Safar Abiyev stated during a joint press conference with Estonian Defense Minister Ants Laaneots.
Abiyev’s bellicose commen’s follow similar ones made by his president Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday and come amid growing tension between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the settlement of the Karabakh Conflict. The Azeri President has been escalating his militaristic rhetoric in recent months in preparation for presidential elections in October.
Echoing his Commander in Chief, Abiyev told the Estonian Defense Minister that Azerbaijan would not make any compromises regarding its territorial integrity.
According to him, Armenia continues to present obstacles to the peaceful settlement of the conflict by not fulfilling the requiremen’s set forth by a UN resolution on Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. The resolution, which his country drafted and pushed through the General Assembly in March with a minority vote, called for an Armenian withdrawal from Nagorno-Karabakh.
