Karabakh Will Extend Security Zone if Azerbaijan Attacks

STEPANAKERT (ArmRadio)–The only way we will ensure the peace of our people in the case of renewed Azerbaijani aggression is by enlarging the Karabakh Security Zone, Nagorno-Karabakh-Republic President Bako Sahakian said during an interview with RBC Daily on Thursday.

"Azerbaijan’s belligerent statemen’s exert no psychological influence on us," he said, stressing that in the case of renewed aggression, Karabakh would have no choice but to conduct military actions into Azerbaijan.

But the use of force will result in many human losses on both sides and will not solve the Karabakh issue.

Sahakian said that it is necessary for Stepanakert to fully participate in peace negotiations, explaining the entire settlement process as ineffective so long as Azerbaijan refuses to negotiate with Nagorno-Karabakh.

"We do not put an emphasis on the number of participants of the talks, but unless Azerbaijan starts negotiations with us, all other formats will be ineffective," the President said.
