CIS Summit Kicks Off in Saint Petersburg

SAINT PETERSBURG (Armenpress)–An unofficial summit of the heads of the CIS countries kicks off in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg on Friday.

Aide to Russian president Sergey Prikhodko said that besides the general session, which will take place on the second half of the day, a number of bilateral meetings between heads of states are planned.

"The agenda of the unofficial meeting is traditionally not strictly outlined which gives the participants an opportunity to refer to different issues, and forward new ideas and initiatives," Prikhodko said. "The Summit is a good opportunity for frank discussion of all the urgent issues."

Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian is in Saint Petersburg participating in the summit. Earlier Friday he met with his Azeri counterpart on the sidelines in what mediators have called a "constructive" meeting.
