Azeri Position on Karabakh Unchanged, Says Spokesman

BAKU (Armenpress)–In an attempt to respond to Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian’s recent statemen’s on the continued use of military rhetoric, Azeri foreign ministry press secretary Tuesday said the Azeri position on the conflict had not changed.

“Azeri authorities do not use military rhetoric,” said spokesman Khazar Ibrahim.

“Based on the existing situation, Azerbaijan increases its spending in all areas, including the military,” Ibrahim said in an interview, aimed at countering Nalbandian’s commen’s to the OSCE Minks Group that continued threatening rhetoric by Azerbaijan complicated the peace process and created an atmosphere of mistrust.

Ibrahim also said in the interview that Azerbaijan continued to advocate for the resolution of the conflict within the “framework of Azeri territorial integrity” asserting that Baku’s position would remain unchanged.

Meanwhile, speaking in Astana, Kazakhstan, chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Goran Lenmarker said there was a “golden opportunity” for the resolution of the Karabakh conflict.

“I see a golden opportunity for signing a peace treaty for the regulation of the Karabakh conflict,” Lenmarker said in his speech made at the 17-th Summer Session of the OSCE parliamentary assembly.
