Mother’s Day at Pilibos

It wasn’t just flowers that April showers brought to Pilibos in May. It was an incredible display of talents.

On May 9 the Kindergarten through 2nd grade students of Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School presented a very special program honoring mothers.

Upon arrival, all mothers and guests were greeted with beautiful roses. Also, every student in each class had a display of creative artwork that they had made for their mothers. Before the show, moms also had the opportunity to socialize with their child’s teacher and enjoy coffee and delicious pastries.

Our Kindergarten students recited poetry in Armenian about mothers and told the audience “What Mommy Means to Them.” “Mommy” to our six-year-olds meant tucking them in bed at night, reading a book under a warm blanket, keeping up with dentist appointmen’s, and taking care of them when they are sick. The first graders also recited poetry in Armenian and gave a brief history about the origin of the Mother’s Day holiday. Furthermore, they waltzed to Aram Khachaturian’s “Masquerade” and danced to an Armenian folk music. Finally, the second grade students danced three dances, which included a western dance, the cha-cha, and an Armenian dance. After all the classes had performed, the K-2nd graders all sang Mother’s Day songs, which were prepared by the music teachers.

As children were reciting poetry and singing, tears of happiness rolled down many mothers’ cheeks. After all, these were their precious children on stage performing especially for them. Moms didn’t expect to see perfection during the program, what mattered most to them was seeing their beautiful children perform. Due to the success of the event, we hope to make it an annual Pilibos tradition.
