Tens of Thousands Flock to 33rd Annual Navasartian Games

VAN NUYS–Tens of thousands of community members flocked to Birmingham High School Sunday to attend the closing ceremonies of the 33rd Annual Homenetmen Navasartian Games.

This year’s ceremonies culminated with the traditional parade of athletes and scouts, as well as the distribution of medals and awards.

Homenetmen, the premiere Armenian American Athletic non-profit organization, hosts annual summer games for Armenian youth every 4th of July weekend. The games, which have become a California-Armenian community tradition, are an important part of Homenetmen’s mission to elevate members by imparting valuable life lessons that transcend athletics, helping grow each of them into confident and strong individuals who can be highly successful in their community and personal lives.

The 33rd Annual Navasartian Games, which attracted over 4000 athletes, began on April 27th, 2008 and entered its final stretch this weekend when athletes from 17 different chapters made their way to Birmingham High School for the Final Four Days of Games and the highly anticipated Navasartian Festival.

The final days of the competition include semi-final and final rounds for Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Swimming, Track & Field, Table Tennis and Chess. The Weekend festivities kicked off on Thursday night with live performances and a special fireworks show on Thursday and Friday evening. The four day festival featured International food & marketplace booths, live entertainment, a children’s corner, and community organization booths.
