Police Officers Arrested on Extortion Charges

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian National Security Service agents arrested two ranking police officers from the Kotayk police department Monday on charges of bribery and extortion.

The two men, Sevak Khachatrian, a captain in the investigative division of the Kotayk police department and Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Papian, the head of the division, were arrested after Khachatrian took a $5,000 bribe from a citizen in return for softening the sentence given to his son for committing a criminal offence. According to the NSS, Papian knew of the bribe.

A criminal case has been launched into the matter.
