Karabakh Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Foreign Ministry

STEPANAKERT (Combined Sources)-The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic celebrated the 15th anniversary of the establishment of its Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Stepanakert on Wednesday.

"Today the Nagorno-Karabakh republic has permanent representation in leading countries and regions around the world, it is ‘de facto’ a full-fledged state, and many officials, political scientists, experts and international organizations of the world accept this reality," Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Foreign Minister Georgy Petrosyan remarked during celebrations in Stepanakert.

Through its foreign Ministry, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic works to attract investment into Karabakh’s economy, and enhance relations with the Armenian Diaspora by working to implement humanitarian programs in Nagorno-Karabakh, he said.

According to Petrosian, Karabakh conducts an independent foreign policy, enters into relations with other states and international organizations, and its representatives participate in international and regional conferences.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its permanent representations continue to work toward presenting to the international community an accurate image of Nagorno-Karabakh-a country where democratic values and human rights are considered the milestones of statehood," Petrosian stated.

The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has proven its right to exist, he said, noting that country has held a number of presidential and parliamentary elections that have been deemed democratic by independent observers.

"A generation has grown up [in Karabakh], which considers itself the carrier and guarantor of statehood. Today we speak about the irreversible changes that took place in the mind of our people," Petrosian remarked."There has not been a case when a people refused the independence they enjoyed for more than 20 years."

"Today more and more international structures interested in the resolution of the conflict are inclined to the idea that the resolution should be searched for on the legal-political field," he said. "One of the priorities of Karabakh Foreign Ministry is the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict."
