Armenian Construction Team Leaves to Repair Georgian Bridge

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’sent a 12-member team to Georgia to assist in the construction of a key Georgian railway bridge, which was attacked Saturday.

The bridge is located near the central Georgian town of Gori, 40 km west of Tbilisi. The Georgian government accused the Russia’s of blowing it up on Saturday, a charge strongly denied by Moscow.

Susana Tonoyan, a spokeswoman for Armenian transport and communications ministry, said repairs on the heavily damaged bridge went underway on Monday, but she declined to say when the repair will be over. Earlier Georgian authorities said it would be completed in two days.

Some 72 cargo trains en-route to Armenia were stranded as a result of the explosion.

The railway is the main transport link between Armenia and Georgia’s Black Sea ports of Batumi and Poti which process more than 90 percent of freight shipped to and from Armenia.
