ANKARA (NTV)–Turkey will guarantee stability in the Caucasus, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said Wednesday during in interview with Turkish NTV.
Ankara cannot remain indifferent to the recent developmen’s in Georgia, he said, adding that Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are of great importance.
“We attribute great importance to stability and peace in the Caucasus since these are essential for economic cooperation in the region,” Gul said. “Turkey has always advocated that problems should be resolved through dialogue.”
“After the escalation of tension in the region, I held talks with Georgian President Saakashvili and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev of Russia," he added.
Gul said he had expressed concern about continued stability in the Caucasus to Saakashvili during their last two meetings before the onset of fighting in Georgia.
