Diaspora Ministry, UNDP Sign Cooperation Agreement

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In its first order of business since becoming a full-fledged government ministry on Wednesday, the Armenian Diaspora Ministry signed on Friday a memorandum of mutual understanding and cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The document, signed between Diaspora Minister Hran’sh Hakobian and the UNDP’s permanent representative in Armenia, Conseulo Vidal, covers cooperation in developing and implementing a comprehensive concept for Armenian-Diaspora relations. The agreement also outlines collaboration on the development of the ministry’s website and public relations apparatus.

Vidal congratulated Hakobian on her recent appointment as Diaspora Minister, saying her knowledge and personal experience will ensure the ministry’s high quality of work.

According to Vidal, the memorandum will give the United Nation’s longstanding relationship of cooperation with the Armenian Diaspora a more formal structure.

The cooperation agreement, which will remain in force until the end of 2009, also envisions collaboration in building a civil education center, and summer camps in Armenia for diasporan youth.
