YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Speaking to reporters about Barack Obama’s presidential win, the US Ambassador to Armenia, Marrie Yovanovitch, appeared to contradict herself on Wednesday, giving differing responses to questions about Obama’s impact on US foreign policy toward Armenia and the Armenian Genocide.
In one instance, early in the press conference, Yovanovitch firmly stated that US foreign policy toward Armenia will not change.
“Both Democrats and Republicans support the democratic development of Armenia and the economic reforms,” she said. “Representatives of both parties’ also support the settlement of the Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. Both Republicans and Democrats back the reconciliation between Armenia and Turkey, the opening of the border, and the establishment of diplomatic relations.”
But when asked about the new US administration and its policy toward the Armenian Genocide, Yovanovitch replied “we should wait and see what the new President and his team will do.”
