Turkey’s Top General in Azerbaijan for Talks with President, Top Officials

Turkish General Ilker Basbug in Baku talking about Turkey's eternal commitment to Azerbaijan

BAKU (Combined Sources)–Turkey’s top general met on Thursday with leading members of Azerbaijan’s government for talks on the region and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

General Ilker Basbug, Turkey’s chief of General Staff held separate meetings Thursday with President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Defense Minister Safar Abiyev and Parliament Speaker Oktay Asadov. Turkish journalists were not invited to the meetings.

President Aliyev said that the friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey cover all fields, including the successful joint work in the military sphere. General Basbug, for his part, said he was confidence that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey will be further strengthened in all fields, including military.

Following his meeting with Abiyev, Basbug said that Turkey favored a settlement of the conflict that secures Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

Abiyev said that recent development in the region made improving bilateral relations and security endeavors more necessary. He added that Azerbaijan would make use of all opportunities to ensure its territorial integrity if the Nagorno-Karabakh peace talks falter.

Turkey will always stand by Azerbaijan, Basbug added.
