Karabakh President Visits US, Meets with ANC-ER Ahead of Telethon

BOSTON–The President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic arrived at the central headquarters of the Armenian Relief Society in Boston Wednesday where he met with representatives from the Armenian National Committee’s Eastern Region Offices for talks on the development of Artsakh-Diaspora relations.

President Bako Sahakian’s visit comes ahead of this year’s Armenia Fund Telethon, which will take place on Thanksgiving Day, November 27. Sahakian is in the US to participate in the annual telethon, a tradition for presidents of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

During his visit to Boston, Sahakian also met with members from various Diaspora organizations, including the Armenian Youth Federation, Homenetmen, ARS, and the Hamazgayin Culturual Union. He discussed with them the current socioeconomic situation in Karabakh and the recent developmen’s in the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process.

Sahakian was quoted by his press office as describing the close cooperation between the Diaspora and the Nagorno-Karabakh government as a “solid guarantee” for achieving positive results.

He also met with a group of Armenian businessmen from Massachusetts to discuss investment opportunities in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Sahakian later met with journalists from the Boston Globe daily, Armenian Mirror Spectator and Hayrenik weekly newspapers, discussing regional issues and answering questions on the Karabakh conflict and its effects on the republic’s society and economy.
