ISTANBUL (Marmara)–A group of Turkish scholars will launch a web-based petition to collect signatures urging the Turkish authorities to apologize for the Armenian Genocide, reported the Turkish Vatan daily newspaper.
The scholars include Ahmet Insel, Dr. Cengiz Aktar, Prof. Basken Oran and writer Ali Bayramoglu. The organizers said that this initiative, aside from being a call for change in state policy, is also an individual effort based on the principle of freedom of speech and expression.
The campaign entitled “I apologize to my Turkish brothers and sisters” aims to garner as many signatures as possible from Turkish citizens.
The organizers say that the Turkish population believes nothing has happened to Armenia’s or is unaware because they have been taught that way. The campaign also aims to educate Turkish citizens about the Genocide.
