BOSTON–Amaras Art Alliance, a bon-profit organization based in the Boston area, is planning its third Assistance trip to Armenia this Fall. In 2007 and 2005 Amaras sponsored two vision clinics as part of its Assistance Project in Armenia.
Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity [www.vosh.org] members examined patients in remote towns and villages, distributed new eye glasses and referred patients for surgery while the non-medical volunteers distributed educational materials, clothing, boots, coats, hat, scarves, mittens, and shoes to children in need.
Volunteers are being recruited to distribute new clothing and educational material to the vulnerable and the less fortunate in remote areas during the upcoming trip. Participants will get an incomparable overview of this ancient land by visiting museums, excavation sites, cultural and historic places, villages, orphanages and schools throughout Armenia. This unique opportunity offers participants the chance to experience the less traveled regions of the country.
Amaras is fortunate to have dedicated and experienced volunteers in the Boston area and in Armenia to be able to sponsor programs such as the Oknoutyun Project. This volunteer base has helped Amaras develop high quality programs such as the Youth Music Exchange, Amaras Internship Program and Our Young Stars. The 2009 Oknoutyun trip promises to be as rewarding for the participants as those in the past. For dates, rates, itinerary, and further information contact armeniatrip@yahoo.com. Space is limited.
