Babacan in Baku for Talks on Karabakh

BAKU (World Bulletin)–Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan arrived in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku on Sunday for a series of talks with Azerbaijan’s leadership over the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict.

Babacan Monday met with Azeri counterpart, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and was scheduled to meet with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev as well.

Bilateral relations, regional development and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict were high on the trip’s agenda.

A spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry said that Babacan highlighted the importance of finding solutions to regional conflicts to ensure stability in the region. "Babacan said that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved peacefully in line with international law and by protecting Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity," he said.

Babacan was expected to return to Turkey later in the day.

Babacan’s trip to Baku comes only days after he met with his Armenian counterpart Eduard Nalbandian in Munich, Germany on the sidelines of an international security conference for the second time in just over a week.

Babacan also had a separate conversation there with Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian, who headed the Armenian delegation at the annual high-level forum.
