BRUSSELS (Armenpress)–Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian was in Brussels Monday at the head of an Armenian delegation for talks with European counterparts on Yerevan’s progress in implementing its European Neighborhood Policy Action Program.
French Minister on European Issues Jan Pier Juaye represented the European delegation at the 9th annual session of the Armenian-EU Cooperation Council.
The two sides noted the successful implementation of the program, while also pointing to opportunities for the expansion of cooperation that remain to be explored.
Nalbandian presented the steps carried out by Armenia in implementing its European Neighborhood Policy Action Plan program, describing the program’s implementation is a priority for Armenia-EU cooperation. An inter-ministerial commission has been established to coordinate work with European establishmen’s, he added.
Nalbandian also discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict negotiation process and the steps being take to normalize Turkish-Armenian relations. The European side welcomed the signing of a declaration in Moscow on November 2, wherein the Armenia and Azerbaijan presidents pledged to intensify the search for a mutually acceptable compromise in the Karbakh conflict. Juaye also welcomed a joint statement issues on December 5 by the OSCE Minsk Group encouraging active efforts toward a solution to the conflict
Nalbandian later met with the European Commissioner on Neighborhood Policy Issues, Benita Ferrero-Waldner for talks on regional development.
After the meeting Edward Nalbandian, Juaye and Ferrero-Waldner signed an agreement on “certain aspects of air communication between the Republic of Armenia and the European Community,” which will promote the cooperation between Armenia and EU member countries in the aviation industry.
