Fresno State to Host 10th Annual Armenian Film Festival at

The Armenian Students Organization and Armenian Studies Program of California State University, Fresno are co-sponsoring the 10th Annual Armenian Film Festival, from 7:00-10:00 PM on Friday, February 20, 2009. The Film Festival will take place in the Industrial Technology Building, Room 101 (at the southwest corner of Barstow Ave and Campus Drive) on the Fresno State campus.

One of the featured films for the Festival is SF Hye, which gives an insider view of the Armenian community of San Francisco. The film depicts a community, who bands together despite hardships, to achieve wonders. Writer/Director Gohar Barseghian will be present at the Festival to discuss her work.

Director Alen Tarassians’ Behind the Scenes: Featuring Gor is a short film told by singer/songwriter Gor Mkhitarian, about his journey coming from Armenia, meeting various musicians in Los Angeles, and forming a band.

Road Less Traveled: The Handjian Story was produced by Denise Gentilini. In their own words, Malvine and Kourken Handjian tell of their experiences as children witnessing the atrocities perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks upon the Armenia’s, from 1915-1923, and their own displacement during the “relocation” process. Producer Gentilini is the grand daughter of Malvine and Kourken.

Admission to the 10th Annual Armenian Film Festival is free and film-goers will have the opportunity to discuss films after the screening of each film. The films, in English or Armenian, are all directed and produced by a new generation of Armenian film-makers.

This program is supported, in part, by funds of the Fresno State University Student Union Diversity Awareness Program.

The 10th Annual Armenian Film Festival is open to the public and admission is free. Parking restrictions are relaxed in all lots near the venue. For more information about the Film Festival, call the Armenian Studies Program office at 559-278-2669.
